Recently, I visited a Washington, D.C. bar, Policy Restaurant and Lounge, I have not yet tapped. Admittedly, I still would not even be aware of its existence had a friend not invited me for a birthday celebration.Policy is located at 14th and T Streets, NW an extended part of Washington's hip new nightlife hotspot, the U Street Corridor.
The interior of the lounge is decorated in a gawdy ecletic design. Back seated chairs stand at the bar, booths across the aisle, and high seated tables huddle at the front corner near the entrance.
For beer connoseiurs, only a handful of options are available on draft (though a personal preference of mine, Samuel Adams seasonal is available) but patrons may choose from a wide selection of bottled beers, including standard domestics, imports, and many obscure micro-brews.
For those who prefer cocktails, Policy offers a selection of crafty and some unique options.
Although the prices on the drink menu can be steep, Policy offers excellent Happy Hour deals including Guinness for $3.00 (where else does such a bargain exist?) select wine and tasty cocktails for only $5.00. If you, like many diligent Washingtonians, work late, don't worry about missing the Happy Hour train as it lasts all day Monday, until 8 P.M. Tuesday through Friday and even a Saturday Happy Hour from 5 to 7 P.M.
Policy additionally cooks up food in its kitchen, but I did not sample their culinary art, so I am unable to make a judgement.
Policy is worth the visit for beer, wine, and cocktail lovers alike. To enjoy the bargains, visit at their extended Happy Hours and enjoy!
